The national Rugby union team of Samoa, also known as “Manu Samoa,” is a professional rugby team that plays men’s international rugby matches for their country and competes in the Rugby World Cup.

The sport of rugby gained the attention of Samoan people in the 1920s.

After just four years, a governing body for rugby union, Western Samoa Rugby Football Union, was established to look after and organize the rugby matches for the national team. The same year, Team Samoa played its first international match against Fiji.

A unique thing to mention about Team Samoa is that they always offer a traditional ritual before every match called “Siva Tau,” which is their traditional war dance.

Team Samoa is one of the most competent and prominent teams in the Pacific region. Over time, Team Samoa has given some historic performances, including their match against Papua New Guinea in 2009, which they won by 115-7.

Mr. Seilala Mapusua is the head coach of the team, and the captain of their current squad for the Rugby World Cup 2023 is Michael Ala’alatoa.

The team plays its home matches at Apia Park in Apia, Samoa.
